Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting;
And His truth endures to all generations.
Psalm 100, NKJV
How do you bless someone's name, and what good does it do? I mean, if someone walked up to me and said, "I bless the name of Casey," that really wouldn't mean very much to me. Then again, my name doesn't have universal ramifications. My name isn't the Name above every name, and the only Name under heaven by which we can be saved. My name isn't powerful enough to heal sickness and disease and infirmity and affliction. My name isn't authoritative enough to make anyone tremble. My name isn't transferable as the key to answered prayer, or the means by which people receive Divine impartation. My name is just simply a name.
But what about His Name? As a preacher, I know them all. And to lift up the Name of Jesus and bless it is powerful indeed! To bless the Name of the Lord is to praise the God of all, with whom nothing is impossible, who can do everything exceedingly abundantly well, and who wants to do it for you. So maybe I'll just spend a few days blessing His name as I give thanks.
Lord, I'm thankful today and I bless the Name of Jesus--which means God is my salvation. Through the Name of Jesus, my sins are forgiven, my spirit is renewed, my soul is sanctified. Through His Name, I am protected through every trial and tribulation, through every hardship and distress! The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, into which the righteous run and are saved!
Lord, I'm thankful today and I bless the Name of Christ--which means anointed one. He is the one eternally marked as Your Son, and anointed to be my Prophet, Priest and King. His words are life, His ministry is ever-living, and His kingdom is eternal. He speaks to me and for me, He makes intercession for me at the right hand of God, and He is establishing His rule within me to save me forever!
Lord, I'm thankful today and I bless the Name of the LORD--which is the representation of Your covenant-keeping Name YHWH in our English Bibles. You swore to Abraham, and to those with faith like his, an everlasting covenant of redemption, and there being no other higher than You, You swore by Yourself, by Your Name, and You will be faithful to Your oath, Your promises, and Your Name. I cannot save myself, nor do anything to redeem myself, but You O LORD, have done everything necessary to redeem me and to reconcile me to yourself. Rightly do we call You LORD, because You have kept Your Word to all who call upon You!
Lord, I'm thankful that I'm not in danger of running out of good things to call You, and that all who call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved!
